Harvest Rainwater, Secure Tomorrow: Expand Water Storage Now

This rainwater harvesting project is central to our mission of transforming the farm into a model of sustainable farming. By capturing and storing water, we aim to create a reliable water source in this semi-arid region. This effort not only supports our crops and livestock but also demonstrates how water solutions can inspire sustainable practices in similar communities. Together, we can make our farm a beacon of resilience and sustainability.

Your support can transform our farm into a sustainable water haven.

Together, let’s secure water for all seasons. With just 200 millimeters of rain annually, every drop counts. By expanding our rain harvesting, we can build a resilient system that maximizes this precious resource, bringing us closer to sustainability, even in the face of nature’s challenges

The Daily Struggle for Water

Water is life, but for our community, securing it is a daily challenge. From traveling 8 kilometers to fill tanks at a water tub, to women fetching water from the river, and using carts pulled by cows to deliver jerry cans—these are the realities we face. The high cost of water, in both effort and expense, highlights the pressing need for sustainable solutions. Through rainwater harvesting, we can take the first step toward lasting change

Why Rainwater Harvesting is Essential for Our Farm

Creating sustainable water solutions to support our farm, community, and environment, even in the harshest conditions

Increased Rainwater Storage Capacity

Store up to 20,000 liters to sustain the farm during dry months. This ensures we have enough water to keep our crops, animals, and daily activities running smoothly

Versatile Usage

Supports irrigation, livestock hydration, and household needs. Water is a vital resource that touches every aspect of life on the farm.”

Portable Tanks

Easy to relocate during emergencies or land disputes. Their portability ensures flexibility and adaptability as our needs evolve.

A vibrant illustrated infographic showing a sustainable water management system on a farm in a semi-arid region. The setup includes two 10,000-liter black plastic tanks on concrete platforms, a solar-powered well, a reverse osmosis system, two smaller elevated tanks near a farmhouse, an underground pond for overflow, lush green crops, wicking beds, and an aquaponic system. The entire system is solar-powered, with solar panels visible near the house, emphasizing eco-friendly farming practices.

The Bigger Picture: Our Vision for a Sustainable Water System

This illustration represents our future vision for a sustainable farm water management system. It showcases key elements such as rainwater harvesting tanks, a solar-powered well connected to a reverse osmosis system for purified water, and an underground reservoir for overflow. While not a technically accurate representation, it captures the essence of our ultimate goal—combining solar power with efficient water use to sustain green crops, aquaponic systems, and wicking beds, all in harmony with nature.

Eco-Friendly Solution

Harvesting rain reduces dependence on external water sources. It helps us lower our carbon footprint and conserve natural resources

Rainwater Overflow for Irrigation

Excess water is redirected to wicking beds and water pans. This provides an additional boost to our sustainable farming efforts.

Cost-Effective Backup

Tanks can be refilled by water lorries in dry seasons, ensuring consistent supply. This helps bridge the gap when rains are scarce

What Your Support Will Help Us Build

With your support, we will build a sustainable water harvesting system to secure water access and empower food production. The project includes two 10,000-liter rainwater tanks on concrete platforms, upgraded gutters for efficient collection, and first-flush diverters for cleaner water. A lined water pan will store overflow for use during dry periods. We will also replace broken mabati roofing and add new surfaces to increase collection capacity. This system will benefit our farm and allow us to share water with neighbors facing shortages, creating a model for sustainable farming in semi-arid regions
